I've worked with one kind of machine (although it was a 486), which would have a habit of "forgetting" the hard disk settings. All it needed was to be told to "re-autodetect" the disk and everything was fine. Either that or you've fallen prey to winCIH or some variant. You can look that up at places like

But for some strange reason, when i leave a bootable xp installation disc in the cd drive, and it says press any ket to boot from CD, I leave it alone, then its able to boot into windows and I'm able to work in windows like nothing is wrong. My system is slow and hangs up while downloading. Also, I have come back to the computer 3 times now to find a black screen with this message: Disk Boot Failure. Insert System Disk and Press Enter. Of course, I don`t have a system disk and I`m not sure what would happen to my computer if I did insert one.

I was check the reboot order by press true reboot in Packard Bell screen the function F2, I think it was the same while reboot in the begin press DEL, so after this i have the bios in the screen and search for advanced reboot. All was look good there, i don't believe it, but the computer is working good now.

I then closed the floppy, and took it out of the good computer and put it in the bad computer and turned on the power, it still stops at the system configuration screen and says "boot disk failure, insert system disk and press enter."
